I was raised in Nairnshire, one of the arguably prettiest and most historical of seaside towns in all of Scotland. The maritime climate is mild, and the mountains that surround and shelter the region make it less rainy than other places.

The beach is beautiful, with its endless expanse of bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds, the sea grasses and cattails perpetually waving in the wind, and the silver sands that rival any tropical resort thousands of miles away.

I had grown up looking out over the sea and surrounded by all this beauty, and though I went away to school to become an Art teacher and Social Worker, working conscientiously at losing most of my natural seaside dialect and focusing on speaking the King’s English. I always knew I’d come right back. You can’t be around the natural beauty of a seaside town like Nairn without having sea foam in your blood and the rhythm of the waves in every beat of your heart.
